Cort started his career in the marine industry when he joined the US Coast Guard in February 2002. During his time in the USCG as a Machinery Technician, he logged over 150,000 miles at sea, completed a circumnavigation of the world in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, received numerous awards and a Coast Guard Achievement Medal, and ultimately achieved the rank of 1st Class Petty Officer. Cort was honorably discharged in November 2010.
Since 2010, he has been actively engaged in the recreational and commercial marine industries having held positions as: Lead Mechanic, Project Manager, Service Writer and Commercial Projects Manager. Cort achieved status as an ABYC Master Technician in 2015. He has a passion for marine education and became an adjunct technical instructor for the American Boat & Yacht Council in 2016 and continues to support and teach for the ABYC. Cort also continues to work with the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding in a supporting role as both an occasional instructor and curriculum support for the Marine Systems program.
