2018 Viking 68 Convertible | Big Winner

Viking Yacht Company is on a roll! They have been debuting many new models lately and HERE IS ANOTHER ONE, and a big WINNER! The NEW Viking 68 Convertible emerged from the New Jersey manufacturing plant this past December, revealing her splendid blue hull.

This four-stateroom blue-water convertible has unmatched performance, bulletproof construction, luxury interior accommodations and advanced propulsion and boat-control technologies. “This boat is going to be a big hit,” says Viking Design Manager David Wilson. “We were able to bring some of the attributes of our larger models to the 68 while maintaining the efficiencies of a smaller sportfishing boat.”

The 68 C is designed and engineered to function equally as well as a tournament-ready offshore runner and a cruising yacht with all the conveniences and technology that you’ve come to expect from Viking.
The optional Seakeeper gyro stabilizer heightens the level of comfort during both fishing and cruising activities. Anglers do battle in a 176-square foot cockpit, while guests can watch from an air-conditioned observation mezzanine.

Running on Viking’s proven hull shape with a 12.1-degree transom deadrise, this beautiful battlewagon delivers a soft ride in rough seas, with a 35-knot cruising speed and a top end approaching 40-plus knots. An aggressively raked stem, gently sloping sheer, swept-back black-masked windshield and flying bridge brow present a powerful yet elegant picture.

Here is an action shot of Viking's Finish Mechanic Foreman Tom Harris directing their Travelift into position so the 68 C, a 115, 306-pound vessel, can be lowered into the basin for her first sea trial. The photo shows the 68 C's sharp entry, variable deadrise and bow flare, which are just some of the design traits that give the boat a smooth, dry and stable ride.

The optional 1945-hp MTU Series 2000 V12 M96L diesels push the 68 C to a 40-plus-knot top end and a 35-knot cruise. With these powerful yet efficient powerplants and a fuel capacity of up to 2,423 gallons, the boat has great range. The Seakeeper 26 gyro enhances stability so you can always enjoy the ride or stay on the bite.

The captain has superb 360-degree visibility from Viking's pioneering flybridge center console walk-around helm. The helm and flanking companion seats are joined by port and starboard lounges and a seat forward of the console. Store an abundance of bait or food in the forward top-loading freezer.

The deck design maximizes the space under the 176-square-foot cockpit's sole. Our shipwrights laminate an aluminum backing plate into the deck for rocket launcher or fighting chair installation. Port and starboard hatches lead to storage for an in-deck fish box, optional live well tub and dunnage box.

Relax in the salon's port L-shaped lounge while taking in a movie on the 49-inch HD TV (that silently rises from the starboard walnut cabinetry with the push of a button). The galley, with its convenient island counter, is only a few steps away. Facing the galley, the raised starboard dinette seats four comfortably. The midship master has a queen walkaround bed, two hanging lockers, a pair of credenzas, under-bed storage, end tables and a full-size private head with separate shower.

The 68 Convertible is also offered with an enclosed bridge, which boasts a forward console station, a pod-style aft docking station, a lounge and a custom stainless steel spiral staircase that joins bridge and salon. For more information about either model, we cordially invite you to contact your authorized Viking dealer.

Each year Viking runs three demonstrator boats - one in the winter and two in the summer. Hands-on experience leads to innovation in all aspects of boat design, from performance, to fishing equipment and features to interior accommodations and comfort. Building boats - and using them in the real world - has fueled Viking excellence for decades.

Consistently running, fishing and maintaining the demo boats allows Viking to showcase their products in the environment in which they were designed to perform. The leaders of Viking Yachts are also the guys who fish their demo boats. Director of Design & Engineering Lonni Rutt (left) bumps fists with Sales Manager Mark Waldron after releasing a white marlin aboard the Viking 62 during the MidAtlantic tournament demo last summer.  Innovative designs, such as their flybridge center console walk-around helm, are often born from on-the-water experiences.

"Each demo boat is an engineering tool, a design tool, a marketing and sales tool, and a customer service tool," says Ryan Higgins, Viking Southeast Sales Manager and Demonstrator Program Manager. "With our demos, we can show a level of commitment to our customers that you'll only find with Viking."

With the 2018 tournament season ramping up, all eyes were on the 68 Convertible which happened to be THE winter demo boat for Viking this year. Check out this video which shows the new 68 Convertible, tearing through Palm Beach Inlet on her way home after fishing the Gold Cup earlier this month.

Each demo boat is an engineering tool, a design tool, a marketing and sales tool, and a customer service tool," says Ryan Higgins, Viking Southeast Sales Manager and Demonstrator Program Manager. "With our demos, we can show a level of commitment to our customers that you'll only find with Viking."
